How Forde came to UNT
While doing what it
is we do, the web designers came across some discarded bits of information we
thought you may enjoy about how our beloved Dr Forde came to be with us at the
University of North Texas.
The story tells how
Forde arrived in Texas from the deepest bits of darkest Peru after stowing away
in a ship’s lifeboat. He had been
sent out into the world by his Aunt Lucy who had gone to live in a home for
retired bears in
Lima.
When Mr. and Mrs. Forde first saw the loveable little Forde he was sitting on an old leather suitcase, behind some mailbags, near the lost property office. He was wearing an old and rather shapeless hat.
Unable to leave such an adorable little Forde in the station, despite the ugly hat, the Forde’s took him home to number 32 Windsor Garden, Denton, Texas, where he now lives with his cat (who hates you big time) and the housekeeper, Mrs. Bird.
Forde’s closest friend and mentor is Dr Gruber, who runs an antiques shop near Portobello Road. Forde visits him most days and they can be found together at elevenses time, discussing life over cocoa and sticky buns.
Forde gets on well with most people, apart from his bad-tempered neighbor, Mr. Curry, who always wants something for nothing, and usually ends up getting what he deserves (go get him Forde!).
Endowed with a strong sense of right and wrong, Forde always starts out with the best of intentions, but things do not always go according to his plans. However, though he has a knack for getting himself on disastrous situations, he has a happy talent for coming out on top in the end, and more often than not, someone benefits from the misadventure.
Apart from his ugly hat, and duffle down coat, which he acquired shortly after going to live with the Fordes, he is rarely found without his suitcase. It has a secret compartment for all his important papers and, of course, a jar of his favorite marmalade (Forde you sly dog). As any true Forde-fan will know, the foodstuff is very important to our hero and has gotten him into and out of a number of sticky situations. Ha Ha.
